In 2024, Ford’s electric crossover, the Mustang Mach-E, surpassed sales of the traditional gas-powered Mustang. The company reported 51,745 Mach-E units sold, marking a 26.9% increase from the previous year, while sales of the conventional Mustang declined by 9.5% to 44,003 units.
This shift reflects a growing consumer preference for electric vehicles (EVs). Contributing factors include competitive pricing and attractive lease offers for the Mach-E. Notably, the base model’s price was reduced from $41,990 to $38,490 for 2025, potentially widening the sales gap between the electric and gas-powered Mustangs.
The Mach-E’s consistent sales growth since its 2021 debut, coupled with the declining sales of the traditional Mustang, indicates a significant market trend favoring EVs. Despite the introduction of new variants like the Mustang Dark Horse, consumer interest appears to be shifting towards electric alternatives.
As the automotive industry continues to evolve, Ford’s experience suggests that electric models are becoming increasingly popular among consumers, signaling a transformative period in vehicle preferences.
