Honda is set to redefine the electric vehicle (EV) landscape with the introduction of its “Honda 0 Series,” a new global lineup emphasizing a “Thin, Light, and Wise” design philosophy. This series aims to challenge the traditional perception of EVs as bulky and heavy, focusing instead on sleek design, lightweight construction, and intelligent technology integration.
At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas, Honda unveiled two concept models: the “Saloon” and the “Space-Hub.” These vehicles showcase Honda’s commitment to artistic design, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and creating a connected, user-centric space. The Saloon features a low, sporty “wedge-shaped” design, offering a spacious interior despite its compact exterior. The Space-Hub emphasizes flexibility and visibility, catering to diverse user needs.
A standout feature of the 0 Series is the integration of Honda’s proprietary ASIMO Operating System (OS), named after its renowned humanoid robot. This system provides a customized mobility experience, enabling ultra-personal optimization and supporting Level 3 automated driving capabilities. Level 3 automation allows for “eyes-off” driving in specific conditions, such as highway traffic, enhancing safety and convenience.
Production of the Honda 0 Series is slated to begin in 2026 at Honda’s EV Hub in Ohio, with the initial launch in North America, followed by introductions in Japan, Europe, and other global markets. Honda has announced plans to invest $1 billion in its Ohio auto plants to support EV production, reflecting its commitment to flexible manufacturing that can adapt to market demands.
In a strategic move to make EVs more accessible, Honda is also planning to launch a small electric vehicle priced below $30,000 in North America by 2026. This model will be part of the Honda 0 Series lineup, aiming to broaden the appeal of electric mobility.
